Buck Martinez to visit Chilliwack’s Yard Baseball Academy

The former Major League player and current broadcaster drops by to sign autographs

Chilliwack baseball fans will have the chance to meet former Major League catcher and current Major League broadcaster Buck Martinez tomorrow (Saturday).

Martinez, who does play by play for Toronto Blue Jays games on Rogers Sportsnet, will be at The Yard Baseball Academy from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The Yard is located at 49517 Prairie Central Road.

Autographs are free, but pre-registration is required to secure a spot (email info@theyardbaseball.ca). There will be 8×10 photos available to purchase on site for $10 apiece, and there is a maximum of two signatures per person.

Martinez will be in Abbotsford Saturday night as the featured speaker at the UFV Cascades Banquet.

That event is being held at the Quality Hotel and Conference Centre.

Martinez enjoyed a 17 year MLB career from 1969 to 1986, playing for the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers and Blue Jays.

Martinez also managed in the big leagues. He was hired by the Blue Jays in 2000 to replace Jim Fregosi. He was let go early in the 2002 season, departing with a career record of 100-115.
