Hockey fans were treated to a high-scoring thriller on Friday, Jan. 26 as the Alberni Valley Bulldogs took on the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

The teams scored back and forth over three periods, with forward Jackson Doucet picking up two goals and Michael Sacco netting a hat trick. The game went into overtime and Silverbacks’ forward Trevor Adams skated in unassisted to score just over a minute into the second overtime period. The Silverbacks came away with the 7-6 win.

The Bulldogs headed over to Vernon on Saturday, Jan. 27 to take on the Vipers. Although the ‘Dogs took a 2-1 lead early in the second period, the Vipers would score three unanswered goals to take the game 4-2. Goaltender Brock Lefebvre kicked away 37 shots in the game.

The roadtrip ended with a Sunday, Jan. 28 against the West Kelowna Warriors. The Bulldogs looked like they ran out of energy, as the Warriors scored five unanswered goals in the first period and a half. Goaltender John Hawthorne was pulled from net and replaced by Lefebvre.

The goaltending change seemed to give the Bulldogs a little motivation, as Sacco would net the first Bulldogs’ goal. But a late rally wasn’t enough, and the Warriors took the game 6-2.

The Bulldogs will be travelling to Powell River this Friday for back-to-back games against the Kings.
