Next month the baseball season in Sooke and the West Shore will be in full swing.

This year, there are five Sooke teams in the Triangle Athletic Association (TAA) league. The league includes Colwood, Langford, Metchosin, Sooke and East Sooke teams.

There are two rep teams this year that have both Sooke and West Shore players on them: a AA Bantam and a AA Pee Wee.

Seann Loudoun, head coach for the TAA, said there is a similar amount of players and teams signed up compared to last year, adding that there are approximately 55 Sooke kids playing this year.

Loudoun is looking forward to all of the fun and interaction that comes with playing and coaching baseball.

“The kids can learn general life skills on and off the field,” said Loudoun. “We try to teach them not just to be good baseball players but also good people, emphasizing on listening skills, sportsmanship, and working together as a team.”

He said that baseball is also a great opportunity for youth to socialize with one another in a friendly environment.

The TAA league is co-ed and includes multiple divisions such as T-Ball, Novice, Mosquito, Pee Wee, Bantam, and Midget, as well as the AA Bantam and AA Pee Wee teams. Registration costs vary depending on the team.

The deadline for registration has passed so there would be a late fee added, but people can still register by visiting www.trianglebaseball.ca.
