Ballenas Secondary School alum Dustin Rodriguez was named to the B.C. Football Conference All-Star Team this week after leading the league in receiving in his final season of junior football eligibility.

Rodriguez, the former Ballenas Whalers standout, amassed 941 receiving yards to help the Vancouver Island Raiders to the semifinals of the conference playoffs.

The Nanaimo-based Raiders, who placed five players on the all-star team, will face the top-seeded Westshore Rebels Saturday in Victoria, with a berth in the conference title game at stake.

Rodriguez was joined on the all-star squad by four Raiders teammates — running back Nate Berg, linebacker Dexter Shea and defensive back Cole Virtanen, all grads of the John Barsby Secondary football program in Nanaimo; and defensive back Josh Paisley.
