There’s a new editor in Ladysmith, and he wants to hear from you

My name's Cole Schisler, and I'm the new editor here at the Chronicle.

I’ve been working here in Ladysmith for a little over a week now, and I got to say, I love it here already.

Some of you I’ve already had the privilege to meet, but some of you I have not. If we haven’t met yet, my name’s Cole Schisler, and I’m the new editor here at the Chronicle.

I’m a prairie boy from Regina, Saskatchewan turned valley kid from Kelowna, BC. I’ve spent the past four years living in Nanaimo and attending Vancouver Island University. I recently graduated with a BA in creative writing, and spent three years of my degree working with the VIU Navigator, two of which I spent as the managing editor.

It’s my firm belief that what makes a local paper truly great is how it can capture the essence of a community, and highlight the amazing people within it.

In my time at the Navigator I learned that it’s impossible to have good community journalism without good communication. As managing editor, I prioritized meeting with community members and talking about what kind of content they wanted to see in their paper.

Now that I’m here at the Chronicle I plan to do the exact same thing.

I look forward to delivering high-quality community journalism that focuses on Ladysmith stories and Ladysmith people. If you see me around town feel free to say hi and strike up a conversation. Alternatively, you can email me at editor@ladysmithchronicle.com with any news tips, letters, comments, complaints, etc. Also, be sure to follow me on Twitter, @SchislerCole for news updates, and more.

I’ll be working here in town for a while, and I want to hear from you, so don’t be shy, Ladysmith.
