Re: Douglas corridor a chance to make ‘visionary’ changes, (Letters, June 27)

I find Vic Derman’s note interesting. A reminder to all community members and Saanich’s mayor and council not to forget the time being spent on planning the vision for the Shelbourne corridor.

Saanich planning and transportation staff, community associations and various other groups have been meeting since 2009 to provide input and develop framework for the Shelbourne Corridor Action Plan.

The area impacted in this plan is vast and includes many schools, Hillside Centre (which is under expansion), high volume roads (Doncaster, Richmond, McKenzie and Cedar Hill X roads), and an area with a high percentage of students and seniors.

This plan will be the benchmark to make our community a vibrant, walkable, bike friendly, lead the way for types of appropriate development along Shelbourne Street and a sustainable Shelbourne Valley.

I hope that Saanich, when it comes time to approve the plan, will include a concrete budget and implementation schedule as to not disappoint the community that it will not be left on a shelf.

Let’s work together on finalizing the vision for the Shelbourne corridor so we can all enjoy it now.
