Regional district should send development proposal ‘back to the closet’

Dear editor,

Re: 3L Development proposal debated by CVRD.

This debate at the regional district level should not even be happening.

Hundreds of people spent thousands of hours working on the Regional Growth Strategy for the Comox Valley and before the ink is barely dry on the paper, a developer is pressuring the regional district to change the rules because “we have the best deal for you.”

The only “green” that this developer knows is the green of money. He has demonstrated in the past that he has very little appreciation for what the citizens of the Comox Valley want so the regional district board should be listening to their staff and just telling him to go away.

With Lot 71 stalled for 15 years, Trilogy still an idea on paper, Sage Hills bankrupt, and Kensington a dream in someone’s mind, to whom does he think he is going to sell his grandiose plan?

Let’s keep development within the existing municipal boundaries where there is this still room for it. Just look at all the projects along Arden road in Courtenay that have been approved but not yet built.

If 3L really wants to do something for the people of the Comox Valley, let them donate the land for greenways and parks and permanent access to the swimming at Stotan Falls.

I urge all regional board directors to stand your ground and send this proposal back to the closet where it belongs.

Pam Munroe,

Courtenay
