Oak Bay needs to be more clear on deer education

Travelling to the university over the years I have not seen any changes in measures to prevent deer accidents on that road.

In the April 30 edition of the Oak Bay News the mayor of Oak Bay stresses – and rightfully so – that safety is of utmost importance when it comes to deer incidents.

He quotes deer death numbers which have increased over the last two years.

According to the CRD website, the most dangerous spot in Oak Bay is Cadboro Bay Road by the golf course. High trees on one side and tall hedges on the residential side make it almost impossible to see deer except at the last moment.

Travelling to the university over the years I have not seen any changes in measures to prevent deer accidents on that road.

There is just one deer sign above Lansdowne Road northbound and no others. There is another single sign coming southbound. Speed limits are unchanged.

If the mayor is truly concerned about deer and motor vehicle accidents why has nothing been done to warn drivers apart from the one sign?
