The focus needs to be on the the Ministry of Natural Resource Operations.

Re: Why punch a road through a forested area? (Letters, Jan. 18).

Mr. Buker, while I appreciate and agree with most of your letter, I feel it is important to inform you that Maple Ridge staff acted quickly and diligently in regards to the Katzie quarry application.

In December, the Blue Mountain Kanaka Creek Conservation Group and other concerned citizens met with Frank Quinn and Rod Stott with the goal to convince them of the need to oppose this project.

We were quite appeased when we learned they were in complete agreement with us; in fact, Mr. Quinn had already written an excellent seven-page letter to Kevin Walker of the Ministry of Natural Resource Operations back in November, detailing the many reasons staff would be recommending council oppose the application.

The focus needs to be on the provincial government, and letters should be directed to Kevin Walker (Suite 200 – 10428, 153rd Street, Surrey, BC, V3R 1E1). Email:

The deadline for comments is Jan. 31.
