As a low-income senior who cannot afford a hearing aid, I have received phone calls from all the major political parties, but I couldn’t hear them. Recently a live local gentleman (not a robo-caller) from the local NDP office called and asked if I had any questions. “Yes,” I said, “how can low-income seniors get a hearing aid without charge.”
I was really pleased that he took the time to listen to me. He was the first one. And he said he would follow up, and he has.
This is an important issue for many seniors. Seniors with poor hearing are sometimes lonely and isolated and they are at greater risk for depression and dementia.
Our local NDP candidate’s office is trying hard to find more information for me. I feel strongly that every low-income senior should be supplied at no charge with a hearing aid. I’m grateful for free cataract surgery, but being able to hear is just as important. When casting your ballot, please remember the low-income seniors who are all too often ignored.
