Open letter to Mayor Luke Strimbold
I am the Laksilyu Hereditary Chief Hagwilneigh (Ron A Mitchell) and I am the official caretaker of the lands in which your municipality occupies.
It has come to my attention that there is controversy regarding signage “No Enbridge Pipeline.” The Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs have opposed the construction of the proposed pipeline since it has been introduced and further reaffirmed in our formal governance institution on May 20, 2013 at a Tsayu Bahtlahts in Moricetown. The laws which were passed regarding pipelines encompass the entire 22,000 square kilometres.
Furthermore the Wet’suwet’en wrote a letter to your council on Feb. 29, 2012 requesting your council to stand with the Wet’suwet’en and oppose the proposed Enbridge pipeline. We have not heard from you or your council.
With this said, congruent with the laws passed through our governance institution, I am in full support of the signage remaining in its current location. And, that the signage supports the laws passed by the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Leadership.
Snay Kahl Yah,
Ron A. Mitchell
