LETTERS: Speed of vehicles as concerning as noise

RE: “Enforcement Lacking,” Aug. 13 letters

I could not agree more with Sheila Davidson.

I don’t know where they are handing out citations but it is not on 16 Avenue/North Bluff Road. Her description of the “White Rock Speedway” is bang on.

We are close to 142 Street on the Surrey side of 16 Avenue. We have lived in this house for a long time and realize that 16 Avenue is a busy road and we have to expect some road noise.

However, Fridays after 4 p.m. and on the weekends it is a speedway.

The noise of some of these vehicles is so loud, we can hear them several blocks away. By the time they get to us, all conversation has to stop, even inside.

My concern is not only the noise, but the speed.

The crosswalk at 142 Street/Phoenix Street is well used, all day long, by families going to the playground at Bayridge Elementary School and people crossing to the 351 bus stop.

The speed some of these vehicles are going, I’m not sure they could stop in time. It does not paint a pretty picture.

I called the Surrey RCMP several weeks ago to report my concerns regarding these noisy speeding vehicles. However, to my knowledge, there have been no speed traps and/or roadside noise inspections.

And don’t get me going about those tandem dump trucks.
