While I agree with one of your readers regarding the acceptance of dogs in many places such as Switzerland and other countries, such as the U.K., I have some concerns about allowing dogs on the promenade. I know some people who have been frightened by dogs or even bitten and therefore have become very uncomfortable around dogs, especially large ones. These people will have to give up a peaceful walk on the promenade for fear of encountering a dog.
I’m sure there are a lot of other places where dog owners can walk their dogs without resorting to using the promenade (off-leash dog parks, sidewalks where a concerned person can cross the street to avoid being close to a dog).
Also, some people may have mobility issues, and a sudden move buy a dog could cause them to fall and be injured.
As far as dog droppings are concerned, I totally blame disrespectful owners for this.
Lastly, it makes me wonder if members of the council who voted for this are dog owners and, if so, how could they be impartial?
