Dear Editor,
Re: Urban farm includes fish, Nov. 10, Langley Advance.
What a wonderful, heart-lifting article.
The students at Kwantlen Polytechnic University have been gifted with an opportunity to develop urban farming that is outside the norm…meaning not a mass meat or milk production farm.
I grew up on a farm in the ’70s, and it was always hard, laborious work.
I don’t miss it, but I do miss growing my own food and feeling my hands in the soil.
I like the idea of a small urban farm where I can eat the produce that I create in my own backyard.
I am not big on community gardens, as I have watched as a number of “city gardeners” seem to lose interest halfway through the season, and allow their crops to spoil on the vine.
The fact that KPU has developed both a meat and plant crop together – is very intriguing.
This is something I could see myself adopting and doing in my own backyard.
Kudos to them for the good work and forward thinking.
Excellent work!
