Letter: Thanks to Emcon for going extra mile

Thanks to Emcon and their consideration for this important community event.

There has been a strident discussion regarding winter highway maintenance over the last few days with much said about “expectation and reality” on the winter upkeep of our roadways and the recent highway adversity.

As president of the Castlegar Nordic Ski Club, I often focus on the condition of Highway 3 west and the parking areas adjacent to our skiing venue. We depend on the goodwill of the highway maintenance contractor, Emcon Services, to help us out in keeping our parking areas accessible. This was especially difficult in January with continuous heavy snowfalls and the many challenges this presented to Emcon.

Our long-planned citizens’ ski event, The Troll Loppet, happened to coincide with the end of the heaviest snowfall we’ve seen in years resulting in the highway pull-off and parking area nearly impassable.

Thanks to Emcon and their consideration for this important community event, our lot was cleared overnight and in time for the arrival of the many volunteers, families and individuals that made this occasion so successful.

Thank you Emcon for going the extra mile.
