Letter: Stratas could ban condo BBQs

An insurance policy which covers fire losses covers them regardless of cause.

To the editor:

Insurance Co’s Will Take Care Of Condo Barbecues, letter to the editor July 23 Capital News.

Yes, they might, but not the way your correspondent suggests.

A policy which cover fire losses covers them regardless of cause (except arson by the person insured, fraud or criminal acts).

If they tried to exclude losses caused by barbecues, that would hardly be fair to the others in the building.

But what they can do is refuse to insure any building that allows barbecues on upper decks, and in the case of a strata, it would be up to the council to develop a bylaw prohibiting them.

Much simpler and more fair.
