I think that the famous gas pump that has made headlines in the recent issue of the Summerland Review is the same item that was donated to the museum by the Lakeshore Racquets Club in the 1990s.
The gas pump was on the premises when the old cannery building was purchased in the early 1970s from Safeway and converted to a clubhouse with squash and racquetball courts.
The pump was located in or near a shed behind the main building. A truck scale was also located adjacent to the shed for weighing incoming shipments of fruit for the cannery.
This leads me to believe that the gas pump was probably used for fuelling the trucks which were hauling fruit to the cannery.
