LETTER: Proposed new gun laws all about control, not guns

Dear editor,

Dear editor,

Trudeau’s proposed new gun laws will do nothing to improve public safety. Anyone who thinks that someone cares whether they have the correct paperwork when they shoot someone is delusional. Once again they target people who aren’t the problem. This is part of the left’s continuing efforts to eliminate legal private ownership of guns. It’s worked so well in those leftist paragons of peace and security, national socialist Germany, communist USSR, China, North Korea, Cambodia and assorted lesser tyrannies. What’s 170 million dead bodies, not including war casualties, relative to making life safe for leftist dictators?

They propose to give the RCMP the unilateral power to change the classification of legally acquired guns to prohibited as they tried with the Swiss Arms and CZ858 rifles, thereby turning citizens who broke no laws into criminals, subject to 10 years in prison unless they surrender their property costing thousands of dollars each, to the government without compensation.

Reclassification will increase under the proposed laws.

The same RCMP who illegally kicked in the doors of hundreds of homes in High River, Alta. and looted their property with no consequences, and violated the law requiring that all the registry records were to be deleted when the ineffective multi-billion dollar Liberal gun registry was abolished. Now the registry is back via Quebec and merchant records, most likely along with a few more wasted billions.

People unfamiliar with the already onerous requirements to get a gun legally in Canada probably don’t care or think these new laws are a good idea. The lessons of pastor Martin Niemoller should be remembered. Allowing the government and its enforcers to arbitrarily confiscate lawful citizens’ property sets a dangerous precedent. Who knows what’s next? Liberal gun control isn’t about guns, it’s about control. Either we stop this and replace this government or change the words to the national anthem again. ” …The True North on our knees…”
