LETTER: Mobility-challenged find help in Parksville

As my first-ever letter to the editor, I just want to say what a lot of truly wonderful people are here in Parksville.

As my first-ever letter to the editor, I just want to say what a lot of truly wonderful people are here in Parksville.

I am an 87-year-old woman who’s trying to hang onto a little bit of independence by going out by myself once in a while.

I have people all the time ask me if I need help or even just offer to hold a door. On Tuesday, Jan. 16, I was going into an establishment when a lovely lady came along and said, ‘Here, take my arm.’ I said I’d be OK, but she said, ‘Come on I know what it’s like.’ On that occasion, my daughter had gone ahead to get a cart for me to hang onto. This lady I would like as a friend. A big thank you to all of you.

As another thought, I must mention I get a kick out of the ads that say shop local. There’s a lot of stores I haven’t been in as they have nothing to help someone with a little mobility problem. I know some have a lack of space, but some of us have a bit of money to spend.

I know I’m very fortunate as there are so many who are house-bound or can’t get out of bed.
