LETTER: Liberals best federal party for Wounded Warriors

Liberral record on military far better than Conservatives

Dear Editor,

I am mystified how any veteran can support a federal political party other than the Liberals.

Consider the following facts.

The Conservatives eliminated the life-long pensions for our Wounded Warriors. The Liberals re-instated life-long pensions, and a veteran depending on the extent of his/her injuries, can now receive up to 90 per cent of his/her pre-release pay.

In addition, they can receive up to $1,150 per month, tax free, for pain and suffering.

They can also receive up to $1,500 per month, tax free, for additional pain and suffering.

There are also various other allowances and support services to which they are now entitled, including $40,000. for re-training.

The Conservatives froze military wages in April 2013. When elected in 2015, the Liberals re-instated military wage increases retroactive to Sept. 1, 2014.

The Conservatives closed nine Veterans Affairs offices essential for the well-being of our veterans.

The Liberals re-opened those nine offices, plus another, for a total of 10,because the requirement was acknowledged.

As an aside, the Conservatives also closed the Kitsilano Coast Guard Station (all those cuts were to offset the $45 billion given to rich shareholders by the reduction of corporate tax and the GST).

The Liberals recognized the danger to sailors and fishermen by this closure and reopened the station, with modernized equipment and boats.

Justin Trudeau is not perfect, but I am convinced that he is a politician who genuinely cares about the well-being of all our citizens, and I am sure Liberal policy is in the best interest of our country.

I cannot say the same about Conservative politicians – history says otherwise.
