Last chance to have your voice heard on Lorne Hotel project

Dear editor,

To the residents of Comox: If you have not provided your comments to Comox town council on the planned development for the Lorne Hotel site, they want to hear from you by Dec. 10.

Their decision on the project will depend on comments from residents like you.

The Lorne Hotel site is at the heart of downtown Comox.

Do you like the proposed modern design: four storeys of condominiums with a pub/bistro/cafe on the ground floor with no parking for patrons?  Should the building design reflect the history and maritime setting of “Comox by the Sea”?

What style of building design would you like to see for the Lorne and ultimately for future developments in downtown?

The town council plans to use the Lorne Hotel site as a model for the development of the rest of downtown Comox, which makes this development extremely important to get right.

The proposal is for a five-storey building, which will require a new zoning bylaw as the current zoning limit is three storeys. Neighbouring buildings are one and two storeys. Are you in favour of five storeys and higher density downtown? How high do you think this building should be?

Write the mayor and council. Let them know your opinion.

Send a letter by mail, fax, email (council@comox.ca) or in person. It must be addressed to: mayor and council. It must identify the property in the subject line: 1770 Comox Avenue (former Lorne Hotel). It must include the name and address of the person making the submission. You can find more details on the Town website: www.comox.ca.
