Fairness key to food truck regulations

Change can be good.

I received an email from the city not too long ago that was asking for my feedback on food trucks operating on city streets and parks. As a mobile food concession operator based out of Salmon Arm I have some insight into the realities pertaining to this issue.

The food truck “craze” has been around for a few years now and it seems to me that having the city gather information with the intent of assessing the current programs, rules and regulations is a good first step.

I would suggest a food truck program that would have specific city-approved areas available via lottery for eligible candidates. I would also suggest that this be developed in conjunction with a revamping of the bylaws that would relate to the new realities. Fairness and flexibility should be two main considerations.

The details should take into account the feedback of all concerned especially the general public.
