Editorial: The valley’s most important human resources

If I could remember the faces of the personnel who attended to me within minutes, I would know exactly who to thank.

Only hazy memories exist of the first night I spent in hospital after falling 20 metres from a granite rock face in Squamish last May.  But if I could remember the faces of the Search and Rescue and BC Ambulance personnel who attended to me within minutes, providing possibly life-saving First Aid, I would know exactly who to thank.

The highly-trained, mostly volunteer emergency responders in the valley and across B.C. are the most valuable human resources in our communities, period. Many could make far more money in private industry, yet choose to remain available to their communities. For this,  they all deserve our highest thanks.
