Don’t be soothed by seductive politicians

Dear editor,Semantics, the ideas or concepts associated with words, are critical to understanding. Think through the following example.People can be rich or poor. Companies can be profitable or unprofitable. However, a business cannot feel cold or hunger, nor can it indulge in obscene pleasures. When we hear someone speak of “rich corporations” or “wealthy industries,” alarm bells should ring, for someone is playing with our minds. They are deliberately applying human attributes to inanimate organizations.Do you imagine a bank vacationing on a tropical island paradise, or an oil company driving an expensive foreign car? If you cannot understand these differences, you are the easily controlled target of predatory politicians, leading you by the nose through a literal forest of deceit. There are valid reasons why our country’s laws, including tax policy, are formulated separately for organizations and individuals. Don’t be a patsy to semantic manipulation.David A. Kelly,Courtenay
