Closed meeting doesn’t promote inclusion

In this time of trying to curb school bullying and discrimination, we are disheartened that the Canadian Christian Lobby recently hosted a "by invitation only to Christians" (to avoid protests) gathering in a local church to denounce SOGI 123; a resource for educators to better understand sexual orientation and gender identity through professional development and curriculum resources which align with B.C.'s new curriculum.

This gathering aimed at discrediting the resource with distorted analysis, bias and hatred. Sadly, the small audience also included families with children. Apparently other such “by invite only” gatherings are happening elsewhere, all in the name of peace and their version of God’s world.

We at Knox United are an affirming congregation and seek to honour and respect all diversity in God’s world. We therefore lament this underground attempt at exclusion, which promotes division and ridicule.

It would be wonderful to have a public information session, open to all, where understanding and compassion are the focus. And yes, where all voices are welcome.
