Canada should promote peace

Peace is a far better state to live in than a state of war. No war has ever brought lasting peace.

To the Editor,

Peace is a far better state to live in than a state of war. No war has ever brought lasting peace. If a small fraction of the money squandered on wars could have been used to achieve lasting peace, this world would have long since been a utopia.

Mankind has had countless millions of years to overpower his ego and his imperfections to achieve peace of mind, but instead he keeps squandering billions foolishly thinking that if he destroys enough countries and kills enough people, it will solve all his problems. Over the ages mankind must have spent countless trillions of dollars on waging wars, killing multi millions of people and turning cities into useless heaps of rubble, without ever achieving his goal of lasting peace, if indeed that was his goal. The only ones that prosper by this are the weapons manufactures, not the ones that are compelled to use them.

How many wars are we going to have to fight before we see the futility of this insanity? I fully understand that sometimes wars are necessary if we are forced into them, but if everyone was thinking peace, no one would be thinking war. The cost of bringing peace to the world would never be as high as the cost of waging wars, and I for one, know it would be a hell of a lot more rewarding.
