Tudor Davies

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Tudor Davies who died peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2008 in Calgary. Tudor was born in the town of Ystrad Mynach in Wales on January 4, 1924. He and his family left Wales on the Leticia and arrived in Quebec City on June 18, 1927. The family settled in Oshawa, Ontario where Tudor grew into a fine young man. He attended Queens University and graduated in 1946 with a degree in Geological Engineering. He began his professional career in Flin Flon, Manitoba where he later met and married Dorothy Evelyn (Smith) of Oak Bank, Manitoba on December 18, 1948. Soon after, they moved to Thetford Mines, Quebec, where their son Martin was born. A change from mining geology to petroleum geology brought Tudor and his family to Calgary in 1958 where began working for Texaco Exploration. In 1969 he left Texaco, and in the years to come, worked as a senior geologist for Lac Minerals, Brascan Resources, and Woods Petroleum. Besides geology, his other great love was golfing, and he was the Club Captain of Silver Springs golf course in Calgary. He retired and moved to Salmon Arm in 1984, where he became an active member of the community and of the Salmon Arm Golf Club. His other passions were most notably his love for literature, history and reading, travel, and spending time with family and friends.
