September 18, 1948 – August 9, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stewart Gustav Nelson, who left his family suddenly on August 9, 2019.
Born in Campbell River, Stewart spent his entire 40-year career in the bush, 37 years of those as a faller, from Camp 10 near Mud Lake to Upper Campbell and Buttle Lakes to the Comox Valley. The only thing Stewart loved more than being a faller was his family. Stewart leaves behind his loving wife of 43 years Alicia, son Aaron (Aniko), daughters Amanda (Russ), Tara (Dave) and grandchildren, Ryder, Carter, Anders, Avler, Briggs, Avryx and Ledge. He also leaves behind a large extended family including siblings, Steve (Brenda), Sharon, Susan, Shelley, Sandy (Sandra) and a great number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Stewart always lived life to the fullest and took advantage of every moment. His friendly spirit was contagious to all those he met, enabling him to make friends everywhere he went throughout the community. Stewart would always take the time to cruise from house to house to have a quick visit with friends and family. He is fondly remembered by generations as a legend behind the backstop on the ball field and in the stands of the hockey arena. In his retirement Stewart enjoyed spending his time with his family. He was an unbelievable role model to his 7 grandchildren – running Papa Daycare out of the family home. Taken too soon, we take solace knowing that Papa Stew and his loving heart will live on forever through his children and grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at 1 pm at the Eagles Hall (1999 – 14th Ave. Campbell River). In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Keep cruising Papa, until next time.
