Stephen Ralph Brown

Passed away peacefully September 6, 2005, at home in Vancouver after a long battle with brain cancer, surrounded by his family. Stephen leaves his wife of 37 years, Lilly, and two children, Alex (Vancouver), and Lisa (Vancouver). Stephen was predeceased by his parents, Norman O. Brown and Elizabeth P. Brown. Surviving him are siblings Thomas Brown, Santa Cruz, Calif., Rebecca Brown, Monte Rio, Calif. and Sukie Brown, Iowa City, Iowa, nieces and nephews, as well as numerous close friends in the Okanagan.

Stephen was born in Madison, Wisconsin, attended Brandeis University in Boston, Mass. and later worked in the early computer industry in Silicon Valley. He met and married his wife Lilly in San Francisco, and they and their two children lived in Mountain View, Calif. In 1972, Stephen and Lilly decided to leave the US and move to Canada where they became dairy farmers. Stephen came to passionately love the Okanagan, especially the Spallumcheen Valley where he farmed. Stephen served his community as a member of the Okanagan College board, then as school trustee and chairman of the school board, and later was elected a councillor of the Municipality of Spallumcheen. He loved the outdoors, and together with his family explored BC through hiking and canoeing trips. His family and his farm were his pride and joy. Stephen will be remembered by his family and numerous friends for his generosity, wit, and love. He was 64 years old. A memorial service will be announced later.
