Ross Fredell

1944 – 2011

Ross Albin Fredell died peacefully early February 9, 2011 at his home in Macalister, BC at the age of 66 after living for many years with leukemia.

Ross was born in Calgary, Alberta on November 8, 1944. He married his life-long love, Cheryl Fredell October 21, 1967 and completed a degree in Agrology from the University of Montana in Missoula in 1968. He is survived by his wife Cheryl of Macalister, children Kelly (Dale McNeil) of Calgary and Doug Fredell of North Vancouver and his two grandchildren Noah and Maya of Calgary. He was predeceased by brothers Mel and Art Fredell and sister Marie Nysten and his parents Walter and Gladys Fredell. He is survived by sisters Joan (Sam) Thomas, Marjorie (Karl) Hasselmann, and Pat (Brad) Goett.

Husband, father, grandfather, horseman, mentor, good friend and neighbour, brother; he wore many hats. Ross worked in Range Management in Williams Lake for most of his career, prior to that he also worked for the Province of Alberta and Parks Canada. He had a strong sense of social justice and he was often frustrated with provincial and federal politics, rarely shy in sharing his opinions. He will be remembered for his sense of humour, sharp intellect and political critique. We will mostly miss his large presence in our lives and the big heart barely hidden behind his gruff exterior.

Special thanks to Charlie Brous and Lynda Archibald, Jack and Shirley Toop, the Rotary Cancer Lodge in Kelowna, and Dr. Glenn Fedor.

Please join us in remembering, celebrating and honouring Ross Fredell. The service will be held at the McLeese Lake hall on Wednesday, February 16 at 2pm followed by a reception.
