Robert Ernest “Pat” Clarke
March 17, 1929 ~ March 20, 2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dr. “Pat” Clarke after 87 years of living an active and fulfilling life.
Pat was a dedicated veterinarian all his working life. Upon completion of his studies at the University of Guelph in 1954 he and his young family returned to Abbotsford where he began his career in private practice. In 1969 Pat joined the Federal Department of Agriculture as the district vet for the Kootenays and later for Vancouver Island. He helped countless animals and people over his career and those he served will remember his generosity, compassion, calm demeanor and reassuring manner.
Pat was also a sailor. He loved the water; rivers, lakes, streams but best of all the ocean. Pat was most content when sailing his beloved Osprey around the Gulf Islands. Once on the water he taught his friends and family the most important things in life; how to whistle with your fingers, how to shuffle cards and how to tie knots, many knots. This was when the man of few words said the most and told his stories.
He is survived by his loving wife Connie of 64 years; his children Terry (Mike), Chris (Debi), Kate (Ron) and Cameron (Claudine); grandchildren Chelsea (Daniel), Geoff, Sarah and Spencer; and great-grandchildren Nathanial and Alexander.
Those who knew Pat will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather and a great friend. Pat respected the skills, creativity and integrity of all the people he encountered throughout his wonderful life. We will miss him forever.
The family will host a Celebration of Pat’s Life from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday May 7, 2016 at Goward House, 2495 Arbutus Rd, Victoria, BC.
Donations to the Saanich Marine Rescue Society or Royal Jubilee Hospital Foundation are welcome.
