Rita Lukaniuk passed away peacefully on January 15, 2017 at New Vista Care Home in Burnaby. In her final days she was surrounded by the love from her family, staff and fellow residents at the care home. Rita was born in St. Albert, Alberta and moved to BC with her husband Joe shortly after they married. Most of their time was spent in Abbotsford; later on they moved to Yarrow. Rita was very involved in the lives of her children who were busy with school, sports, clubs and looking after a menagerie of pets. She enjoyed tennis and golf and spending time with family and friends. When Rita and Joe moved to Yarrow they enjoyed entertaining and barbequing in their back yard. Rita also enjoyed volunteering at the local MCC store. Rita is survived by her children; Guy, Michael, Lynne (Warren), Gerry, and Trish (Gary), grandchildren; Sara, Jennifer (Kitson), Lindsay (Troy), Brett, Lisa, Chantel, Ghianna, and Santania (Ryan) and great-grandchildren; Brody, Ty, Chase and Lavender. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, along with her brother-in-law, Will and two sisters-in-law, Sylvia and Lil. She loved them all very much. Her love also included her extended family and her many friends. Rita is predeceased by her husband, Joe. This spring there will be a gathering of family and friends to scatter their ashes together, as requested. The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff who cared for Rita at New Vista. These people are truly angels on earth.
