RICHARD JAMES SCOTT

RICHARD JAMES SCOTT

Richard (Dick) James Scott passed away at Hardy View Lodge at Grand Forks, B.C., on February 23, 2011. Dick was born on January 5, 1924, at Vancouver, B.C., but was raised at Burnaby on Douglas Road. When he was 18 he proudly joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. He served as an aircraft mechanic stationed at Croft, England. At Armistice he returned to Vancouver where he met Justine (Chris) Martens, and they were married on June 25, 1948. They built a home at North Vancouver, had three daughters and then moved to south Burnaby in 1959.

They moved to Grand Forks in 1981 after Dad retired from Dueck on Broadway where he was an auto mechanic for many years. At Grand Forks he worked for the Parks Board at Christina Lake and Blanket Creek (Revelstoke) as a caretaker – a job he loved. He was a loyal member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 59, served in the executive and was always on hand to ‘lend a hand’.

Dad was a great gardener and made a beautiful home for his family. He was a gentle man, kind and loving with a positive outlook on life and a wonderful sense of humour. He instilled in us a sense of dignity and to cherish the value of a good life, to love and support those around you. They are valuable lessons we keep always.

Dad was predeceased by his adored wife of 59 years, Chris, in 2007; his daughter, Kathryn (#2) in 2002; and his son-in-law, John Hubbard in 2007. He leaves behind his daughters, Lorraine Hubbard (#1), Leslie Scott (#3), (Kim Brown); his granddaughters: Kristine Sitybell and Renee and Nicole Huot; and his great-granddaughter, Kaiyana; his daughter #4 and good friend, Donna Chisholm. Uncle Dick also leaves many nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.

He will be greatly missed – the world has lost another kind soul.

There will be a celebration of his life on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at 1 p.m., at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 59 at Grand Forks. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 59, or the charity of your choice. Services entrusted to the Baker family of Grand Forks Funeral Home.
