PETER BRYNEN

PETER BRYNEN

BRYNEN, PETER

With his wife Jean at his side, Peter finally succumbed to the illness that had stolen more than 40 years of his life at Chemainus Health Care Centre on Thursday, June 23.

Born in Maarn, Holland in 1935, he leaves behind his loving family; sons Scott (Marie) in Burnaby and Rex (Alex) in Montreal; grandson David, and granddaughter Chloe. Also sisters Anke and Flonkie living in Holland.

Peter’s was a tumulous life. At the age of 5 he left Holland on the last ship to leave during WW2 and lived in England under an assumed name because of the delicate nature of his Father’s political connections. He returned immediately after the war but emigrated to Canada in 1956. He met, and later married his wife Jean in Toronto.

Peter was instrumental in the continuation and improvement of the transportation system which allows disabled persons using scooters to use BC Transit and Handydart buses. In 1989 he took BC Transit to court when they announced they would no longer transport those vehicles. Judgment was in his favour, and riders today have the benefit of his efforts.

Peter spent many years in Chemainus Health Care Centre and the family would like to thank Dr. Jim Broere, and the many members of staff who were not only his caretakers but who also became his friends.

No service by request. Donations to Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.
