Pauline (Pearl) Goertzen

July 24, 1933 – February 26, 2017

It is with a heavy heart that the Goertzen family announces the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Pauline Goertzen, a.k.a. Pearl Goertzen. She passed away on February 26, 2017, at the age of 83 at Chilliwack General Hospital. Born on July 24, 1933, in Medika, MB, she was the second oldest of seven children to Andrew and Veronica Karpick. In 1952, she moved to Winnipeg, MB. There she met and married Cornelius (Neil) Goertzen of Gretna, MB, on March 10, 1954. She worked at Canada Vinegar, Clarks department store and later Gambles department store, where she was highly respected as the bakery and snack bar manager until 1972 when she moved with her family to Regina, SK. They later moved to Edmonton, AB, where she took on the role of inventory manager at McLeods department store until she and Neil moved west to Abbotsford, BC, in 1987, where she retired. Pauline is predeceased by her husband, Cornelius (Neil) in 2009, and her daughter Barbara Veronica in 2007. She is survived by her two sons Barry (Kari) of Chilliwack, BC, and Alex (Joan) of Calgary, AB; a daughter Susan (Abe) of Vancouver, BC; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister Betty Lucille Yestrau of Winnipeg, MB, as well as many dear nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Her funeral service was held March 10, 2017, at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Abbotsford followed by internment at Hazelwood Cemetery where she was reunited with her beloved husband, Neil, on the date of their 63rd wedding anniversary.
