Marjorie (nee Worsh) BARKER

BARKER, Marjorie (nee Worsh)

of Brookfield Place, Nanaimo, B.C. passed away on Tuesday April eighth, 2003. Marjorie died peacefully, at home, with the sounds of her family around her. Pre-deceased by her husband Ron in 1979, Marjorie was born on the thirteenth of May 1911 at Knutsford, Cheshire, England. She grew up in Cheshire and became a successful and well known hairdresser. After WWII she married Ronald Andrew William Cass Barker and had two sons Andrew (Janet) and Stephen in England before the family emigrated to Canada in 1952. While living in Aurora Ontario her daughter Dinah (Maisonville) was born. The family moved to Burlington Ontario in the mid-fifties. Here Marjorie volunteered for several community groups and was a great source of comfort to friends and family alike. She moved to Nanaimo, B.C. sixteen years ago to live with her eldest son’s family. Marjorie held a life-long interest in the arts, particularly sculpture and received several awards for her talent. She authored a charming collection of poems that will always be treasured by her family. Her gentle and supportive spirit made her a pleasure to be with. In addition to her own children Marjorie leaves behind eleven grandchildren in Ontario and B.C., a niece and sister-in-law in England. Marjorie asked that her remains be cremated and the ashes scattered, as were her husband’s on the water of a stream. A Remembrance is planned for Sunday, May fourth, in the afternoon, at her former home on Brookfield Place. Friends and acquaintances are welcome.
