SMITH, Margaret passed away peacefully in Fir Park on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the age of 94.
Predeceased by her siblings and son in law, Rick.
Margaret is survived by children Pat (Gunther), Marilyn, Janice (Dave), Ross (Sandra) and Diane (Steve); 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Born in Langley, Margaret was raised on the mainland and worked in Woodwards in Vancouver and, during the war years worked on the planes as one of the many “Rosy the Riveters”. She and her husband moved to Port Alberni in the early 50’s to work at the Pulp Mill. While he worked, she was busy raising children, gardening, cooking – especially the wonderful homemade bread or cinnamon buns. She loved to travel and one of her favourite trips was to England and Ireland to visit her family roots. For many years, she was involved in the Jehovah Witness’. Margaret also enjoyed a simple life in her later years and found that reading was her passion. In 2014 she moved to Parksville to Standford Place before being able to secure a place in Fir Park Village to be near family.
According to Margaret’s wishes, a private family gathering will be held at a later date. Condolences and stories may be offered to the family at www.chapelofmemories.ca.
