January 17, 1924 – June 9, 2020
Mel passed away on June 9, 2020 after a long battle with bladder cancer. Predeceased by parents Julius and Irene Gourdeau, sisters Julie Bruce, Albena Totzke, Lil Thompson, Dorine Erskine and brother Joe Gourdeau.
Survived by his loving wife of 71 years Marion Gourdeau (DeClark), three children Lynn (Fred), Cal (Norma), Wes (Ruby), four grandchildren Kelly (Dan), Jana (Doug), Brayden (Sharley), Kyla (Connor) and four great grandchildren, Kennedy, Markus, Cole and Anna.
Mel was born Jan 17,1924 in Vanscoy Sask. and came to Ladysmith in the 1940’s. He worked as a contractor building houses for many years and then went to work at Crofton Pulp Mill. He retired in 1988 and took up his favourite hobby woodcarving and won many ribbons at the Brant Festival in Parksville BC.
Mel will be sadly missed by family and friends. Obituary-
