With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Mabel on June 19, 2012. She is survived by her husband Dave, children Shelley and Keith (Dianne), and grandchildren Jeremy, Alex, Lincoln, Dylan and Allannah. She is also survived by her brothers Wallace (Rita) Chaput, Ray (Lorraine) Ostrass, Joe (Merle) Ostrass, sister-in-law Kathy Chaput, brother-in-laws Angus (Sue) Henley, Ken (Mabel) Henley, Frank Henley, and sister-in-laws Phyllis Henley, Patsy Moore, and Helen Sylvester, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mabel and Dave moved to Prince George from Vernon in 1970, and shortly after bought the Chuckwagon Cafeteria. She was the backbone of the business, and made many friendships along the way, with both customers and long time staff members. After selling the business in 1979, Mabel and Dave took up camping and fishing, bonding more friendships, most especially with her (late) sister Clara and husband Al. That all came to an end when health problems took over her lifestyle, first Parkinsons and then COPD. She was a big part of the grandchildren’s lives, even as they grew into adulthood. There was always a standing date for dinner at grandma’s on Thursdays.
There will be no funeral, by Mabel’s request.
