February 10, 2020
Long time Golden resident and beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle Kenneth (Ken) Thompson passed away peacefully at the Golden Hospital on February 10, 2020. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 19th, 2020 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Golden. A private family interment followed. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to remember Ken may make a donation, in his memory to The East Kootney Foundation For Health, option Golden and District Hospital at https://www.ekfh.ca/
Ken was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, seventh of nine children born to parents Harry and Hilda (Morton) Thompson. Ken grew up on the family farm in St. Stephen where he developed a strong work ethic along with his above-honest disposition; traits which remained with Ken throughout his life.
Ken left school and moved out west to join his brother Jack, Fred and Harry in Banff. He worked at the Banff Springs Golf course for a time and then moved to Parson where he worked at the Crestbrook Mill. Some of his lifelong friendships were forged during this time and were still strong until the time of his death. Also, during this time, he met his wife Maureen. Ken and Maureen moved to Prince George and were married in 1963. They returned to Parson and had two children; Catherine and Kenneth Jr. In 1973 they moved to Donald and when the mill closed they built a house and moved to Golden.
Ken took his Saw Filer Apprenticeship at BCIT and worked at the trade for many years in the lumber industry.
Ken liked telling stories about the interesting characters he had encounters with over the years and his favorite hobby was cutting wood. Ken was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need and supported several charities.
Ken Thompson was very special to all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the very dedicated and caring staff and the Golden Hospital; especially, Linda, Kristen and Tracy.
