November 16, 1930 – July 20, 2019
It is with great sadness that we report to you the passing of our father Kenneth Francis Lucien Franzen. Dad passed away on the morning of July 20 at his home in Port Edward.
Ken was born in New Westminister on Nov 16, 1930. He started work in a logging camp at Nimpkish Lake at the age of 14. He changed careers in the early 1950’s when he went to work for his brother in-law Peter Bresser at Royal City Ironworks rising to the ranks of field supervisor. He belonged to local 97 Ironworkers Union for 62 years.
In 1977 Dad and Mom (Selina) bought Sheridan Lake Resort. They ran the resort until 1989. They then moved to Port Edward where Ken worked with his son Ken Jr. until he eventually retired.
Ken Sr. was an outdoor enthusiast, he loved his hunting and fishing and his children learned to fish about the same time they learned to walk and talk. Dad and Mom were both big supporters of the Sapperton Fish & Game Club spending countless hours organizing game banquets and fishing adventures. Dad was made an honorary life member for his contributions to the club.
Ken also acted as a Director for the Prince Rupert Rod & Gun Club and participated in the Sport Fishing Advisory Board process until he was no longer able to do the job. Dad was also a big supporter of Ducks Unlimited, the Canadian Wildlife Federation and the B.C. Wildlife Federation and believed firmly in sustainable fish & wildlife management and the protection of fish and wildlife habitat.
Ken was proceeded in death by his wife Selina and survived by his son Ken (Patsy), daughter Brenda (Paul), son Dan (Shelly), son Larry, 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Ken was a good hearted ,hard working man who loved his wife and family. He will be missed by his family and those who knew him.
