Kaija Kaarina Kuivisto Richt
16 May1927 – 21 July 2011
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of an amazing woman, our mother, Kaija. She died Thursday June 21 at 2:08 pm of complications due to a fall at the age of 84. Kaija was the 3rd of 6 children born in Kemi, Finland. At the age of 30 she immigrated to Canada with her surviving husband, Gosta B Richt, of 63 years and the first two of their five children.
We will remember our mother most for being a tough, stubborn, fussy, loving mom with a twinkle in her eye. She loved a good laugh and enjoyed anyone that would join in on one with her. She was a devoted, wife and friend and fought tirelessly to defend her children. She enjoyed traveling, spoke three languages and was an amazing all around “Super Mom”. She and our father ran a successful business, managed to keep an immaculate house and still have time to volunteer at her church. Her love was gardening, knitting, baking, chocolate, being with her children and bragging about them.
Her greatest legacy is connected to experiences while running the family business, Sidney Personal Care Home with dad in Sidney, BC. She was a progressive business woman that stood strong to insure the quality of care was unsurpassed. She will be remembered best by her former employees as a tough woman who loved to keep the facility clean, the residents walking and everybody laughing, especially herself.
She is survived by her husband Gosta, their 5 children; Daughter Rita Bechthold of Hegansburg, BC her husband Denis and their children Christine and Dion; Son Christer Richt in Sidney, BC, his wife Virginia and his kids Shauna Mae, Bjorn and Rusti; Daughter Anita Black in Coldstream, BC, her husband Colin and their children Ryan and Clint: Daughter Lena Brion in Vista California her husband Burton and their children Andrew and Zachary; and son Roy Richt in Fort St John, BC and his wife Shelley and their newborn. She also leaves behind 5 great grand children. We will greatly miss her laughter. We love you MOM!!
A Memorial Service will be held at the Vernon Seventh-Day Adventist Church Saturday August 6, 2011 at 5pm.
