Jose da Rosa Da Silva

Jose da Rosa Da Silva

On September 7, 1929 , Jose was born to Jose & Maria da Silva on Madalena, Pico, Azores Islands. He was the third youngest child of eight children including a half-sister (Mary) from a previous mother. His older siblings are Elzira, Aurilia, Lidia, Albino and his younger siblings are Gabriel, and Carolina.

In 1950, Jose would enroll in military – off and on for several years. Afterwards he would meet the love of his life Maria Ceocecou (deceased February 12, 2018) and they were married in 1962. Jose and Maria very quickly started his own large family of eight children: Manuel (d. 1964), Joe (Erin), Paulina (Grant), Maria (Steve), Tony (Anjie), Marice (Karen), and Manuel (Jodi).

In 1972, he and Maria migrated their young family to Castlegar, BC where they made their home and grew their family by one more child – Paul (Heather). Jose worked at the local sawmills while Maria would stay home with the children. Jose liked to travel taking his family all over BC and to AB. He also liked his huge garden and to do puzzles.

Jose retired in the mid 1990s and patiently waited for grandchildren. He finally received seven: Redford, Gina, Hailey, Thomas, Charles, Aven and Lucas.

He will be remembered for his laughter, love of his family and his endless patience.

Special thanks to the wonderful people at Talarico Place who took great care of our Dad.
