May 9, 1931 – June 29, 2013
The family of John Wanderer is deeply saddened to announce his death on June 29th. After a very active and productive life, the quality of his latter years were increasingly diminished by the ravages of rheumatoid arthritis.
John was predeceased by his mother Irene; father Michael; and sons: Kenneth and Gary. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy; son Alan (Barbara); daughter Carol (Jim) Fowler; grandsons: Liam, Sam, and Matt; sister Mary Gregory; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
John was an original, incisive thinker and had a wicked sense of humor. He often achieved the impossible through sheer determination and persistence. He spent a few years as a logger/sawmill operator, then changed sides and joined the forest service. He served for 25 years and became a respected forest ranger. During these years he also renovated and bought houses, and developed lots and acreages in the areas he lived in.
After his retirement he spent happy years with his hobby of bird photography, producing fine color close-up portraits in natural settings. These resulted first in calendars, then in two beautiful books showcasing the birds of BC.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the Community Nurses and to Dr. Annan for their care and compassion and for making it possible for John to die at home. John’s passing was a release from an existence of extreme pain, which eases the loss for those he left behind.
Go with love, free spirit.
