John was born in Baarn, Holland, on April 20, 1930. He was the 2nd oldest of 9 children.
He is survived by his wife Bia of 67 years, their children John (Joan), Kathy (Arnold), Marian (Rick), 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and brothers and sisters, and many nephews and nieces who reside in Holland.
John married Bia in August 1952 and immigrated to Canada shortly after they were married.
He was a hardworking farmer, carpenter and truck driver. Work was John’s pleasure. Whether it was looking after animals on the farm, planting a large garden, renovating homes or building things, John liked to keep busy. Even when John was visiting his married children, he liked to look for things to do including roofing in his mid 70’s.
John also had a great love for the Lord and His word and tried to practice what he preached. If asked, he was not afraid to offer his opinion in a straightforward manner and did not worry how his view might come across.
John enjoyed and looked forward to receiving visits and phone calls from his children and grandchildren.
He will be missed for his sense of humor and optimistic outlook on life.
