John Mayer of Courtenay, BC has passed after a long struggle with diabetes and heart disease.
Always quick with a joke and a smile he leaves behind his wife Lynette of 53 years, two sons Todd (Iwona) and Wade (Sharon), grandson Adrian, and his two younger brothers Joe and Matt.
Born in Hogyesz Hungary in 1938, John immigrated to Canada with his family at age
11. Always proud to be Canadian, he served in the Canadian Forces with the Queen’s Own Rifles in the early 60’s before starting a 30-year career as an ironworker with Local #97.
He left construction in 1998 to follow a dream of owning a firewood business, Johnny’s
Firewood Service, which kept Comox Valley homes warm for over 15 years.
Many thanks to home care sta and Dr. Gee for their support and kindness.
A small private family service will be held on the land that he loved. He has requested that in lieu of flowers, any memorials be made in his name to the BCSPCA, Canadian Wildlife Federation, or MARS.
