John Braun of Abbotsford, formerly of Gibsons BC, passed away at the George Derby Facility for Veterans where he had resided for the past 9 months. He was born in Southern Manitoba July 19, 1918 and passed away June 6, 2007, 42 days short of his 89th birthday. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Mary in Gibsons in 1982 and his brother Edd Braun in Campbell River in 2004.
He is survived by 7 siblings and many nieces and nephews.
His career began in the Canadian Military during the second world war where he earned many medals of which he was very proud. He retired from the pulp and paper industry as a stationary engineer. He also was a long time member of The Royal Canadian Legion. He was a very caring brother to all his siblings and kept track of all his nieces and nephews until his 88th birthday when his health began to deteriorate.
He will be remembered by all his family and everyone who knew him as a real gentleman, always very well groomed and someone to be admired.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2510 Ware St. on June 24 at 1:00 pm.
