John Anthony Barnes


It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce that John

Anthony Barnes passed away peacefully at Kelowna

General Hospital, on November 2nd, 2011 at the age

of eighty-five. John will be lovingly remembered by his

loving wife Jeanne, and their four children, Vernon

(Helene), Lorraine (Charlie), Carolyn (Barry), and Reg,

and grandchildren Angela, Jeremy, and Teresa (Alec),

and his only great granddaughter Haley. John was born

in Veregan, Saskatchewan, July 6th, 1926. He loved to

sing and play the guitar, harmonica and banjo. He loved the outdoors, especially cross-country skiing, and won

many metals at the Suns of Norway Ski for Light. On

June 7th 1949 he married Jeanne Gouin in Calgary Alberta. They raised a family there and later retired to Kelowna where they made many new friends and enjoyed thirty-five

years of living in their own home. A Memorial Mass will be

celebrated at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church,

750 Rutland Road N., Kelowna at 10:00 am,

Monday, November 14th, 2011. His family greatly

appreciates the love and support of any of you who can

attend the celebration of his life. If you cannot attend we ask your presence in thought and prayer.
