Joanne Shirley Dent (nee McKinnon)
It is with very heavy hearts we write this announcement of the passing of our wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and friend: Joanne.
Joanne passed away, peacefully in Chilliwack Hospital emergency room, husband Don and daughter in law Lisa, by her side, at the age of 75. She has gone to be with her forever Angel and daughter Sherry Dent.
Joanne was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, moving to Hope, BC when she was 3 years old. She resided in Hope for the rest of her life. She worked in many different places in Hope during that time and owned the House of Royal Scot. store in Hope, BC.
She was a very active member of the legion for many years, with the ladies auxiliary and the Hope hospital auxiliary as well. She participated in the community by doing a lot of volunteer work for many, many years. She was also a home support worker for people in Hope during this time.
Joanne met her husband of 27 years, Don Orcherton in Hope also. She raised 4 children in Hope as well. Joanne loved the town of Hope and always said she would never move anywhere else. The only time she left was over many summers when she spent them at her second home in Moonlight Bay on Big Shuswap Lake. She had many wonderful memories of family and friends on the lake with her and Don.
Joanne is survived by Don, her loving husband of 27 years and by her two sons: Rick Dent (Nicole), of Innisfail, AB, grandkids: Dallin, Kyle, Courtney of Vancouver, BC, Emily; Sandy Dent (Lisa), of Chilliwack, BC. grandkids: Clayton and Calvin.
Joanne is also survived by two daughters: Shirley Wilson (Terry) of Hope, BC, grandkids: Shelin Doniak (Corey) of Agassiz, BC, great-granddaughter, Dilynn, Sheryl Wilson of Calgary, AB; Shai Wilson of Hope BC. Joanne’s other daughter, Sherry Dent, passed away in 1982.
Joanne is also survived by her three stepsons and their families: Steve Orcherton, (Peg) of Victoria, BC, grandson, Conner; Tom, (Joanne) of Victoria, BC, granddaughter, Ruth; John (Nancy) of Hope BC.
Other surviving family members are her brother Bob McKinnon (Linda) of Ft. St. John, BC, her niece, Kelly McKinnon (Kevin Roberts) of Victoria, BC, great nephew, Matthew Evans of Victoria, BC, niece, Debbie McKinnon (Reil Vasas) of Nanaimo, BC; great niece, Jessica Kennedy, of Parksville, BC plus many other extended family members and great family friends who will miss her dearly.
Joanne’s service was held September 24, 2017, in Hope, BC. We thank all that were able to attend on short notice.
