Jim passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, December 31, 2010. Jim was born on September 5, 1926 in Burnaby and raised in Sapperton, B.C. He was quickly promoted to become the first principal of Clearbrook Elementary and subsequently became the principal of many schools including Godson, North Popular and Upper Sumas Elementary until his retirement from teaching in 1983. He loved to golf and to travel with his wife Gladys and his family. They traveled to many places over the years including Reno, Europe, Reno, China, Reno, Australia, Reno, New Zealand (where Glad and Jim bicycled across the country), Hawaii and Reno. In 2008, they took a cruise to South America around Cape Horn where he zip-lined down the side of a volcano in the Andes. He pushed his way to be the front of the line to be the first one down the mountain. Jim was always an adventurer.
